About Diane da Silva

I’m a Los Angeles based photographer, formerly from northern California. At the age of 12, I bought my first camera from a drugstore with a piggy bank full of change & proceeded to photograph my cousins, because there are many, & created a photo scrapbook. That lasted a short time.

When the photography passion returned again as an adult, I enrolled in classes at the local community college as well as the state university.  After working a bit & feeling the need for more technical expertise, I left for Santa Barbara to attend the Brooks Photography Institute & then moved to Los Angeles where I now reside.

My photographic work background includes production stills for commercials, some editorial, corporate & actor headshots as well as an occasional promotional shot for musicians & other performers.

If photographs create history from the present, what is now & what was then, people & places always provide my camera with endless possibilities. Every face has a unique story presenting an opportunity, a challenge to capture a moment & maybe a tiny revelation. If, as the old adage goes, “The eyes are the window to the soul,” a good portrait opens that window. In my heart, I’m probably more of a street photographer preferring to observe and photograph people in their environments.
